I hope you have your resolutions in writing for this new year. One of my resolutions is to help my fellow man and community. I am doing this partially with my participation in Rotary. Rotary is based on service to our community, Country, and the world. I believe that my Creator put me in this world to help others in their struggles. Rotary has expanded in Montgomery County to five active Rotary Clubs with Locations and meeting times as follows:
1. Conroe – Tuesdays at noon
2. East Montgomery County – Tuesdays at noon
3. Lake Conroe – Tuesdays at noon
4. Magnolia – Tuesdays at noon
5. The Woodlands – Thursdays at noon
Actually, the formal meetings start at noon with socializing starting at 11:30. These Clubs have websites so you can check on their meeting locations. These Rotary Clubs sponsor Interact Clubs at various high schools in various school districts during the school year which is Rotary on a high school basis. Each Interact Club has a school sponsor (i.e. teacher, counselor) and one or more Rotarians helping to guide those high schoolers using the principles of Rotary in service and in leadership training skills. This past weekend, hundreds of High School Juniors were sponsored by Rotary Clubs for an all-expense-paid three-day weekend at a leadership training seminar at a fully equipped permanent camp in the Texas Piney Woods. More on that experience in next week’s Rotary News. The Rotary Club of The Woodlands also sponsors a “Satellite Club” in the evening and mostly virtual with some socializing. In addition, the Rotary Club of The Woodlands sponsors a Rotaract Club which is a Rotary Club for young adults who have graduated high school through their 20s.
At the end of each Rotary meeting, we conclude by stating together the Four Way Test which is
• Is it the Truth?
• Is it fair to all concerned?
• Will it build “good will” and friendships?
• Is it fair to all concerned?
Most Rotarians add a fifth statement, being “Is it fun?” Rotary is more than just service or having a meal with friends. It is establishing long-term personal/business friendships and fellowship as an organization with a purpose to help others.
