Although the calendar year is coming to a close, the year for Rotary Clubs all over the world is reaching its midpoint.
In other words, work for the current administration for each Rotary Club is about half way through the year’s work of fund raising and implementing Pprojects. Each Rotary Club has ways of raising funds which occurs in the first six to eight months of the year. Projects are implemented once the funds are acquired. For instance, the Rotary Club of The Woodlands normally hosts a large fund-raising Gala in February. Same with the Rotary Club of Conroe. The Rotary Club of The Woodlands has several ongoing projects to fund such as Rotary interaction with high schools students via Interact Clubs along with their Rotary House which provides housing for families who come to Montgomery County for medical treatment. Montgomery County has become known for its world class medical community, bringing in visitors from throughout the USA to Montgomery County for extended treatment with their families.
All five Rotary Clubs in Montgomery County located in East County, Magnolia, Lake Conroe, Conroe, and The Woodlands provide a weekend Leadership Retreat for high school Juniors in January of each year. This Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (aka RYLA) provides life-changing opportunities for high school Juniors during this two and a half day retreat. Later, these five Rotary Clubs provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors to attend colleges and trade schools. The Rotary Club of Conroe provides customized I LIKE ME books for first graders in the elementary schools which feed into Conroe High School.
Each book is customized as to each first graders personal interests such as their first name, the names of their best friends, what they like to do, along with their pets. About 2,000 first graders get these personalized hard back cover books.
Rotary Clubs have other ongoing Projects dealing with Rotary International such as eradicating Polio, providing water wells in third world countries, supporting peace and understanding worldwide, and so much more. Rotary Clubs work together such as the orphanage Christmas Present Project in Mexico. Rotarians are servants of our communities because we choose to be such. If you have a servant heart, you might be a “Rotarian.” We have Rotarians like Roger Goertz who volunteers regularly to support the Montgomery County Food Bank with its food distribution events. Another Rotarian has been Santa Claus for the special adults at Bridgewood Farms since 1990, being his 34th year in this supporting role to bring joy to those special adults.
