Today is Veterans Day, the one specific day each year set aside to thank our veterans for all of their contributions.

We are grateful for their sacrifices with each of these veterans giving their lives in defense of our freedoms or their remaining lives impacted by what happened when they served. Rotarians are grateful for those that have and still are serving.

Being a service organization, Rotarians realize how significant and meaningful it is to serve our community and nation, bringing peace to the world.

The Rotary Club of The Woodlands hosts a huge celebration honoring Veterans at their Thursday meeting before Veterans Day. Last Thursday saw a significant number of veterans honored with both praise and gifts at this lunch provided free of charge by the Rotary Club of The Woodlands. This luncheon normally hosts over a hundred veterans each year to honor, praise, and celebrate the contributions of those men and women who have served in the armed forces! Rotarians celebrate these services not just on one day, but every day.

Our meetings always start with prayer and include members of our Armed Forces and veterans for their many contributions in keeping us safe. We also request our creator to keep those safe who protect us and our nation! Veterans Day is official just one day a year, but Rotarians appreciate the sacrifices and service that these men and women have provided to preserve and protect our great country!

VFW Commander Marcey Phillips will be the featured speaker at the Rotary Club of Conroe on Tuesday, Nov. 19, to talk about veterans and how we as Rotarians can reach out to help those who have given their lives and service to our country. We need to beseech our elected officials to better assist our veterans in helping them to get back into civilian life.

This includes providing them with better health/mental care. Rotarian and former Congressman Kevin Brady was essential in bringing to Conroe a Veterans Medical facility. Veterans in Montgomery County no longer have to go into the downtown Houston medical complex, but can go to the medical facilities located on South Loop 336, saving hours of travel time and stress. Rotarians continue to look at ways to support and honor our Veterans.

The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County has a Rotarian from the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County as its Executive Director.

Rotarian Cecily Kelly has filmed interviews with women of the Armed Forces who have served our country. The first such “living history” video  features VFW Commander Marcey Phillips. The 90-minute video documents the lives of women in our Armed Forces. She and her therapy dog were filmed at the Heritage Museum to ensure that such service is not forgotten.

As a Nation, we are grateful for our Veterans. As Rotarians, we are especially grateful for their service to our Nation. They ALL gave their lives in service, some giving their life with all living veterans forever impacted by what they experienced defending our Nation!

The Rotary Club of Conroe meets at Honor Cafe in downtown Conroe Tuesdays at noon.
