Rotarians are known for our service to our community, country and the world.

We serve in a variety of ways whether through Rotary’s organized service pathways or in individual realms. Rotarian Elizabeth Logue is one of those blazing a pathway through Lone Star College in a unique four-year program aimed at mainstreaming those who are neuro-sensitive in a social and business aspect.

She has developed a unique four-year educational program to help these challenged students to adapt and excel in a normal business environment.

These students could have autism, Down syndrome, dyslexia or a variety of other neuro-sensitive challenges. She has worked with the state of Texas to establish a college-accredited program called “life path.”

This approach is full of encouraging and morale boosting curriculum to help foster confidence and self-esteem. This work-based learning experience is the basis on which to convert a two-year associate’s degree into a college degree for those that are challenged.

“The life path community internship program provides student with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to connect their educational experiences to real-life work and future career opportunities. Life Path students are qualified and trained to work autonomously with periodic instructor oversight and evaluation. Participating in a two-semester internship is the final step in competing the life-path Occupational and Life Skills Associate (OLSA) degree,” according to Elizabeth.

She saw the growing need in our community and responded with a program to help these special adults adapt to workforce situations. She told me these students in her program are very loyal and productive. Many employers utilize her graduating OLSA students because they stick to their jobs and are very loyal. Elizabeth’s nurturing, loving personality fits her students’ needs and provides them with the abilities to excel in the work fields those students have chosen.

Although this program is relatively new, it is showing many successes with exceptional graduates and proud families. With state accreditation in place and many individual success stories, Elizabeth’s growing college program is needing more internship opportunities.

If you have an internship opportunity for a semester, contact Elizabeth via email at MC-lifepath@LoneStar.edu or go online at LoneStar.edu/lifePATH.

This Lone Star College program is flourishing in our business community and need more internship opportunities whether those opportunities be retail clerks, computer programmers/IT, bookkeeping, and so much more.

These young adults are needing these real-life opportunities as interns as a part of a supervised college course. Interns have proven themselves through three years of preparatory college courses to provide them with the skills to excel.

These students and their families appreciate the hard, dedicated education that Elizabeth Logue and her staff are providing.

The students are looking to continue in their development to be contributing citizens in our community. Please consider to off an internship or two to help Elizabeth blossom her student into the work force.
