Today marks the last Monday of the calendar year 2024. We have much to look forward to in calendar year 2025. Most Rotary Clubs have planned for their fund raising events and how they want to invest those funds in our local communities, our Country, and the World. Rotary Clubs are looking at investing in education for our youth.
The five Rotary Club in Montgomery County generously give scholarships to those planning to attend college or a trade school. We also look at investing in books which provides learning opportunities from first grade onward. The Rotary Club of Conroe provides special “I Like Me” books to all first graders in elementary schools which feed into Conroe High School. Each Rotary Speaker that appears before the Rotary Club of Conroe is provided a book to inscribe on the book’s inside cover which then gets donated to Runyan Elementary School Library. The Rotary Club of Conroe has adopted this school since those attending this school mostly come from poor families. Rotarians also invest in Interact Clubs in most of this county’s High Schools which is “Rotary Service on the High School Level.” Juniors from these High Schools are selected in December for a weekend in January of leadership development.
The Rotary Clubs of The Woodlands and Conroe are planning fund raiser Galas to help fund their ongoing Projects. The Rotary Club of The Woodlands is in its 50th year and continues to host The Woodlands House which provides housing for free to those Families who traveled to Montgomery County for medical treatment at our world-class medical facilities.
The year 2025 is sparking interest as Polio is working its way to total eradication of Polio. There are 197 countries in the world with only Afghanistan and Pakistan having new Polio cases. With less than 100 new cases, Polio is about to be eradicated completely!
The year 2025 will see wars, but it will also see Peace initiatives from Rotary International. Travel and understanding the various cultures of people in this world provide opportunities of understanding and looking for the commonality, not what makes us different. Peace poles are being erected in areas throughout the world. These peace poles have a simple statement, “May peace prevail on earth.” These four-sided poles proclaim this message in various languages.
The year 2025 will see calamities, but Rotary Shelter Boxes will be there to house those impacted by hurricanes, earthquakes, war, and other devastating community disasters. We also see Rotarians working together to re-build communities in Florida and North Carolina.
Rotarians are dreamers putting their dreams into actions. If you want to make your dreams become a reality, search out Rotary and its goals of service.
