The annual Conroe ISD Pigskin Preview came to The Rotary Club of Conroe last week and as always the meeting was one of the best of the year. The club welcomed new Conroe ISD Director of Athletics Chris Feris and the football coaches of Conroe ISD to Honor Cafe for a lively and informative presentation.

There are always more questions than can be answered in the allotted time as club members gear up for the fall games. For those of us fortunate enough to live near the high school, we have a second reason to love football season; when we open our doors and windows to the fall air on home game nights, we can hear the crowds cheering and the band at half time. Takes us right back to our childhoods, for sure!

I recently had the pleasure of speaking to RCC, my home club, about my trip to The Rotary International Convention in Melbourne, Australia. I was excited that my young friend Annie Hernandez, daughter of club member Sondra, joined her mom for the meeting. Unfortunately, I didn’t see a kangaroo (her burning question) but I’m hoping she enjoyed the visual recap of the trip just the same.

I wanted to remind you that both RC Conroe and RC Lake Conroe will join the Woodlands and Magnolia RCs this week, Thursday, August 3rd for a “Collaborative Club Visit” by new District 5910 Governor Amy Kilgore at The Woodlands Palmer Country Club. This meeting will replace the Woodlands Club’s regular Thursday meeting, and also the Lake Conroe Club’s Tuesday meeting. The Conroe Club will have their Tuesday meeting at Honor Cafe and then also attend the Thursday multi-club meeting. Confused yet?

The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe sends a big thank you to The City of Montgomery for the trash trailer they have been providing for the monthly 3rd Saturday workday at Memory Park. Led by Rotarian Charlie Parada, this group of volunteers brave the heat and humidity each month to keep the park in tip top condition. That was certainly evident over the 4th of July when the flags flew over a green and gorgeous park, despite the heat wave. Great work everyone!
