Luxury custom homes priced up to $1.5 million are coming to the city of Montgomery as developers start construction on Bentwood Farms.

The community northeast of the city along FM 1097 will have several 1-acre homesites, a fishing pond and jogging trails, according to a release by Houston-based builders Partners in Building.

The community will be followed by future development that reaches south toward Lake Conroe, the release states.

“We see a lot of people of all walks of life liking the Montgomery County area, especially the large lots,” said Tyson Bell, president for Partners in Building’s Houston division. “We’re very excited about it.”

The developers broke ground July 21, beginning their first phase of 19 homes, Bell said. The second phase will include 17 homes near Lake Conroe, he said. Each home will be priced between $1.1 million to $1.5 million.

This comes as officials aim to improve transportation in the city.

In June, officials announced they would begin working on a new transportation mobility plan to be able to get more federal funding through the state for non-roadway projects such as sidewalks and trails — to improve the quality of life in the city, officials said.

During a meeting in July, officials moved to create a transportation  committee as a means to have more of a voice for projects.

Mayor Byron Sanford said in a previous article that improving on transportation could bring in more development. And if the city wants to attract economic development, “you don’t bring them to a traffic nightmare,” he said.

McKinney-based Oxland Group announced late July that it purchased 1,860 acres in Montgomery County and will bring 4,000 homes into a new, yet-to-be-named master-planned community. The developers also plan to build a bridge and east-west roadway so residents will more easily connect to The Woodlands, Magnolia, and Conroe for employment, entertainment, shopping, schools and hospitals. The new east-west roadway would take up 30 miles off bus routes for Montgomery ISD.

The city has roughly 2,000 residents and is expected to double in the next five years, officials said.

Homeowners are expected to start moving into Bentwood Farms in early 2024, Bell said.Â
