As usual Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club President, Katherine Maher, opened our recent General Meeting with a prayer, followed by leading us in the Pledge to the American Flag and then the Pledge to the Texas Flag.
That was followed by “Good News” where we share with each other anything “good” that happened to us recently. For example, Bill Hogan tipped over his scooter in Kentucky, and he didn’t get hurt! Marie Underdown won $20 in Canasta! Dave Underdown AGAIN, was thankful that the Doggies & Divas event was over, and he and Marie didn’t get a divorce! (We all laughed at that!) Dot Anderson planted plants that attract Monarch Butterflies, and they are doing just that! The butterflies are gorgeous!
Next, we had three Happy Birthday celebrations! We are so glad that Art Drouin, Cheryl Hettema and Lesley Haenny came into the world!!
The minutes of our last meeting were approved as was the Treasurer’s Report.
News on our upcoming Vision Screening project was given and our Reading Chair, Dian Dodd, reported that five LCCLC have already starting to read to the children at Madley Ranch Elementary School. In addition, Lion Art Drouin stated that he has also delivered dictionaries to Madely Ranch and will deliver dictionaries to students at Stewart Creek Elementary next week.
After a brief discussion, our club voted to present our Lake Creek High School Leos with $200 to spend on Angel Tree gifts for needy children.
Art Drouin was excited to announce that this year’s Lions Convention will be held in April and that he reserved a table for 8 for the convention’s Roaring 20’s Ball. And Lion Dave Underdown stated that he would like to present a program entitled “Texas Superstars” which highlights the best plants to grow in our area.
We closed our meeting with a 50/50 drawing which was won by Patty Loughlin. Congratulations Patty! Half of the monies in the 50/50 drawing and all the “Good News” donations go to the Texas Lions Camp.
