Members of Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club met recently at Walden Yacht Club for a General Meeting.  The evening began with a prayer given by Al Domingues followed by President Katherine Maher leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and then the Pledge of Allegiance to the Texas Flag.

Then we all joined together to sing “Happy Birthday” to our January birthday gals, Shirley Abt, Patty Loughlin and Dot Anderson. Congratulations!

Next up was Kevin Smith from the Montgomery Lions Club who reported that last year’s Chili Cook-Off was such a success that we have already scheduled the 2025 event which will be held on November 15, 2025!  Be sure to save the date!  This fundraiser is a joint project of the Montgomery County Lions Club and the Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club with all proceeds benefiting the Texas Lions Camp.

Next, Program Chair Janet Heath introduced this evening’s Guest Speakers,  Doug and Kathy Joslyn.  Kathy and Doug founded Animal Shelter Volunteers of Texas in 2016 and committed themselves to saving the lives of rescue dogs and cats by fostering them until they can find permanent loving homes.  Through their hard work, and the hard work of other volunteers, ASVT is able to re-home 300-500 animals (mostly dogs) a year!  Kathy also made a Good News donation to the Texas Lions Camp.  She shared the good news that instead of being euthanized,  2 dogs, Hansel and Gretel, will be leaving Texas and traveling to their new forever home in New York!  Way to go!  We appreciate all that you do for our community!

Bill Hogan, Vision Chair,  reported that our club will be buying our own Vision Screening Machine and that our members will need to undergo training to be certified to run it.  Then Dot Anderson, Leo’s Chair,  said that scholarship applications have been given to Tina Braun, the Leo’s Advisor at Lake Creek High School, to hand out qualifying Lake Creek seniors. In addition, she mentioned that our Leo’s worked so hard at the Chili Cook Off and the Cruisin’ Car Show that our club would like to show our appreciation by hosting an Appreciation Dinner for them at Rudy’s BBQ later this month.

Terry Gorman and Janalee Jessen recently traveled to Houston to volunteer their time with the organization called Giving Gowns Foundation .  This non-profit helps high school girls who cannot afford to attend their prom an opportunity to pick out a gown, purse and matching jewelry at no cost to them.  Not only did Terry and Janalee have a good time helping these deserving gals pick out outfits, but they were also rewarded with lots of happy smiles on their beautiful faces.

The meeting closed with a reminder that the Cut n Shoot Lions Club’s Hoedown is being held on March 8th.

Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at Walden Yacht Club.  Happy Hour is upstairs at 5:30 pm and the meeting is downstairs in the Mirror Room at 6 pm.  For more information, please contact President Kathrine Maher at Katherine@lakeconroelady.com.
