The last First Thursday Concert of the season is Thursday, Sept 5 with a tribute to the 80’s/90’s country music with Shotgun Road. This is a free concert starting at 7:00pm. Bring your lawn chairs and any food or beverages inside Heritage Place Park but leave the glass bottles outside the gates. Thank you to the City of Conroe for hosting this event every year. 

The new season at the community theatres opens Friday, Sept 6 with “Rock of Ages” at the Owen Theatre hosted by The Players Theatre Company and “The Play That Goes Wrong” opening at the Crighton Theatre from Stage Right. Saturday, Sept 7 is Downtown Conroe’s First Saturday Stroll from 10:00am-2:00pm at the merchant shops with live music, sidewalk sales, restaurant and drink specials, and the Main Street Market Conroe at the Courthouse on Thompson Street. The North Houston Back to School Bash will take place at Heritage Place Park on this Saturday also. 

Saturday, Sept 7 through Sunday, Sept 8 is the 6th Annual Fall Montgomery County Home and Outdoor Living Show. Homeowners will be able to speak one-on-one with home improvement experts, with special guest appearances by Tom Tynan of Home Show Radio, the Houston do-it-yourself expert for 36 years, Skip Richter, gardening expert from KTRH GardenLine, and Dr. Lori Verderame, a Ph.D. antiques appraiser, and award-winning TV personality of Discovery Channel Auction Kings, The History Channel’s The Curse of Oak Island and Pawn Stars Do America, Netflix’s The King of Collectables, and FOX Business Network’s Strange Inheritance. Auditions for Steel Magnolias, the story circling around a Louisiana Beauty Parlor with a group of Southern woman discussing bride to be Shelby and her health complications, will be held Sunday, Sept 8 and Monday, Sept 9 at 7:00pm at the Owen Theatre, 225 Metcalf. Roles will be cast for Truvy Jones (40-ish), Annelle (19), Claire (Mid 60’s), Shelby (25), M’Lynn (50-sih), and Ouiser (mid 60’s). www.playerstheatrecompany.com/auditions 

Looking for free family fun? The City of Conroe is hosting the Kid Fishing Derby Saturday, Sept 14 from 9:00am-noon at Carl Barton Jr. Park with hands-on fishing experience that will create wonderful memories for children and families. This FREE event will be held at Carl Barton Jr. Park for children ages 3 – 16.  Participants may use their own fishing gear, however limited poles and bait will be available. All fishing participants must register at the event.  Trophies will be awarded immediately following the final measuring. 

Stay for the Kiwanis Kids Day at the park with inflatables, a rock wall, a petting zoo, EMS vehicle, a firetruck, and a Conroe Police Department vehicle for kids to pretend they are part of the team assisting others in the community from 11:00am-2:00pm at Carl Barton, Jr Park.
