As summer relaxation has come to an end and the last barbecues are celebrated, the Lions are digging in to their “True Grit” to serve the community.
Reading aloud is not something every child is able to receive at home due to schedules or language barriers. Conroe Noon Lions Club will be reading to students on Wednesday, Sept. 18th at Reeves Elementary for their fall reading day. The ‘kids on the lake’ – fishing tournament will be quickly approaching on Saturday, Sept. 21st (2-6pm) for children with physical, mental, and visual impairment disabilities. There will be Lions on hand to assist the kids in catching “The Big One” and other activities. When you see the joy on a child’s face who may not have been able to catch a fish before it is a memory to last a lifetime. There will be a vision screening for adults at Community Assistance Center on Monday, Sept. 16th, please reach out to the Community Assistance Center if you are in need. Lions are still on the hunt for their annual Military Hometown Hero Project and are accepting applications through the end of September. If you know a deserving active military member that you would like to be honored, please reach out to a Conroe Noon Lion. We would like to give a big THANK YOU to all Community Partners for the year 2024-2025 and to First VP Tracy Irvine. We could not provide the community with services or host events like ‘kids on the lake’ without these partners.
Ready, Set, Shoot! Conroe Noon Lions Club will be hosting their annual Clay Shoot on Saturday, October 5th at Blackwood Gun Club. Registration is now open for the shoot and make sure you buy early to save for the Shooting Frenzy and Shoot-Agains. Warning: The Shooting Frenzy challenge will require concentration so make sure Tail Twister Warner Phelps is not standing by you. Tail Twister Warner has done a great job this year bringing life to the club with all his “sounds of fines” if you are out of line. Raffle tickets are being sold for the event so you could be the lucky winner of a new gun. Lion volunteers will be out in force that day to make sure there is no cheating. Remember to volunteer as a puller it only requires your finger and pushing a button, no pulling involved!
Did you know that how much rain affects the taste of grapes which can affect the taste of wine? Helena Van Orton with Bernhardt Winery Texas gave a very informative presentation about the winery and Texas wines. She is an encyclopedia of knowledge in her industry and can lead you to find the perfect tasting wine that you can enjoy. If you did not attend this meeting, you missed out as the winery graciously gave everyone two complimentary wine flights for a tasting. Helena, thank you very much for sharing your story, the winery’s story, and all the information about wine.
