Happy Monday, our meeting was called to order by President Bryan Renell. As usual, we had our meet & greet followed by our Pledges, Song & Invocation thanking God for our Club and giving us the guidance to serve our community.
Next, we were brought up to date on our vision screening for Pre-school children. Chairperson Lion Connie Engle and her volunteers screened 366 children, of which 35 were referred to their teacher and parents for possible vision issues. Preschool screenings are held during the months of October through November each year.
A Service Saturday project was this past Saturday, Nov. 16th was held for a senior resident, assisting with her yard maintenance.
I hope you were able to attend the Montgomery & Lake Conroe Lions Chili Cook-off, which was held on Saturday at Brick Water Grill in Walden. A $5 entrance fee gives you a taste of chili at each booth. All proceeds go to the Texas Children’s Camp in Kerrville, TX.
On Monday, Nov. 18th our club will be assisting the Community Assistance Center by holding another Vision Screening which will take place from 1 to 3 pm.
I cannot forget our Lucky Derby – Car Raffle fundraiser. A $100 ticket could get you a brand new shiny 2024 Chevrolet car donated in part by Buckalew Chevrolet. You’ll have a chance to win 27 other great prizes too, all valued at $200 each. Those chances are better than the Lottery and you’re helping a good cause.
Lion Rob Hamilton, after several tries to tell jokes, presented our program for the day. Our own Lion Bill McGraw brought us his own experience in “Helping Others While Growing Your Business”. He told his personal experience of how he began assisting charities, but it was not organized very well. He then explained after reading a little paperback book, it completely changed the way he looked at business and his charity work. The book was “Start Something That Matters” by Blake Mycoskie, the Founder of Toms Shoes. Tom started his charity matching by selling 1 pair of his shoes & giving 1 pair away.
Bill’s Mom was a great influence on his life. She planted the seed for him to share his desire to help others. That purpose was to provide pure, clean, healthy water. For Bill, water is the main focus. Unclean water is not healthy and can kill. Since he started, he now provides safe drinking water for over 100,000 families.
His idea employee sales/company match, Bill challenged our Club, with the LCIF incentive to immunize children against measles, particularly in third world countries. He challenged Conroe Noon that he would match what we raised. “I learned this lesson from Bill Gates”, whose foundation matched the ‘One Shot, One Life’ project with Lions Clubs International.
Bill’s help ranges from providing clean water wells, food banks and Lions clubs charities. We thank God for the Bill McGraw’s around the world who have a good heart and a drive to serve. Your Mom taught you well.
Remember Ricky, we have no meeting on Wednesday the 24th the day before Thanksgiving. Many thanks to Spectrum for the delicious meals. May you have a blessed Thanksgiving, thanking God for his continued guidance each & every day.
