Conroe Noon Lions gathered for our weekly meeting and fellowship at Lone Star Convention Center on Sept. 11. The historic events of that date were appropriately and movingly recognized by Lion Ed Dolphin in his prayer thanking the Almighty for the strength of our nation and the devotion and commitment of our First Responders and Military members whose lives changed forever that day.

We were treated to two of our most enthusiastic vocalists Past President Judge Wayne Mack and Lion Ladoris Cates, as they shared a microphone to lead the group in a moving rendition of God Bless America with everyone else in patriotic support. Our weekly door prize was an extra special item donated by Lion Susan Johnson, a CONROPOLY Game and gift certificate to Red Brick Tavern, won by Past President Charlie Irvine.  To make a great day even better two more Lions won scrumptious home-made banana bread from Lion Virginia Clement.

Our great Rookie Lions are stepping up to terrific leadership positions. Lion Tiffany Iadarola is now leading the Reaves Reading events and she asked Lions to sign up and read to the kids on the morning of September 18th.  There are still plenty of available time slots so everyone interested can be part of this event.  Lion Nathan Crenshaw is spearheading the formation of our Puller and Scorer volunteers for the upcoming Clay Shoot.  Those team members have a GREAT time seeing everyone try to bag the team “WIN”.  He encouraged everyone to buy their Gun Raffle Tickets and asked participants to complete their team registrations.  The future of our club is BRIGHT with such rising stars!

2nd Vice President Sharene Carr reminded everyone that a Lion favorite event, ‘kids on the lake’ – fishing tournament for special needs children, will be happening at a new date and time, Sept 21, from 2:00 to 6:00PM.  This is always a fantastic day for these children and even more fun for all the Lions.  As they help them catch a “whopper” and play games, enjoy the bounce house, dunk a notable Lion or two and have a family picnic served by more Lions and Leos.  There are many sign up opportunities and every Lion who can come out will have plenty to do and fun to be had.  Lions should sign up with the ‘Weekly Lion-Up’ link or the club office.  For more information visit our Web page (https://conroenoonlions.org/events/calendar) or Facebook page.

Lion Warner Phelps introduced our guest speaker Ted Meyer, a nationally recognized leader in leadership consultancy and labor law and author of Ted Meyer on Baseball Dynasties.  Most notably, he addressed his lifelong passion for baseball history and the dynamics of leadership and management that set the few great teams apart by repeat championships.  Just as he has helped numerous corporate leaders and leadership teams work through very challenging times, he pointed to the example of comparable challenges faced by historic Baseball Teams with difficult situations centered on problems with star players and team dynamics.

Fall is kicking off to be a FUN and busy season for ALL Lions to get involved.  Come on out!
