The year 2024 will be riding off into the sunset, but not before Lions show their “True Grit” during the holiday season!
Firstly, we want to thank our Community Partner of the Week – Sondag Enterprises – for your support for our club. These partners help support programs like our annual Christmas Food Baskets which are set to be delivered to our recipients December 18th. Second VP Sharene is corralling all Lions to assist with boxing on December 17th and organizing the trail ride for delivery. These baskets bring food & hope to those in need during this holiday season.
Do you hear those sleigh bells coming? This week we will host our Cowboy Christmas Social where we will have a contest for the best dressed Christmas Cowboy and Cowgirl. To serenade the club that day we will have Jim Sloan and of course we will have the Saloon open with our traditional Egg Nog! Santa is coming to town to Reeves Elementary on Friday, Dec. 20th for the Jingle Bell Bash from 9-12 pm. Lion Elves will help Santa pass our goodies to the children and make sure they are on the nice list. Hopefully we will fill up every child with the Christmas Spirit so Santa’s sleigh will be ready to fly!
Even though we focus on singing “Silent Night” often this time of year, we are also reminded about our upcoming Silent Auction at the Annual Dinner/Dance & Auction. Our ‘Lions Under the Lone Star’ will be Feb. 13, 2025, so you can do an early Valentines date! If you would like to donate that gift that won’t fit in your home or if you have any marketing dollars left in your budget please consider donating to our auctions. We are shooting for 150 items as Lion Rich reminded the club we will continue on repeat like a broken record until we meet our goal. This is a great opportunity if you are a local business to get your name in front of the community!
At the club luncheon Lion John Stacy put on a game show with finalists testing their shooting skills during our Giddy Up Giveaway, a.k.a Lucky Derby Car Raffle. Dr. Tobin Redwine the new Executive Director of the Montgomery County Fair Association was the celebrity puller, no pressure there! As the 28 finalists left their fate to Mr. Redwine, 24 contestants received prizes in the first round. Luckily the Sheriff was out of town as there were many caught stealing between the shotgun, petal grill, and other prizes. As it came down to the final shoot out, the 4 contestants had to keep a sharp eye as they shot targets to secure their final prize. Lion Ryan Morton playing for Conroe Welding Supply was the ultimate shot hitting the bullseye on the baked bean can. Which held the keys to the last Buckalew Chevrolet, a Chevy Blazer SUV. Congratulations to all winners and a huge THANK YOU to all that donated prizes and bought tickets.
As we finish the year 2024 we keep in mind Lions Club President, Bryan Rennell’s mantra for the year- “True Grit!”. If you are not a Lion, but are looking for an organization that embodies “We Serve,” then visit on Wednesdays, noon, at the Lone Star Convention Center.
