Howdy once again!
On this windy Wednesday, President Bryan called our meeting to order at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, Exhibit Building. He called for our meet and greet time. Virginia Clements led us in singing God Bless America. The pledges were said to honor our Americans and Texas flag, and invitation was said asking God to help us in our many service endeavors, remembering our military, and those needing prayer. Then Gail Cain took the mic and she led us in the Happy Birthday song for all our March birthdays. Next came our favorite song. “Smile” which puts a smile on all our faces to begin our meeting in a great mood and attitude for the day.
President Bryan then called on our committee chairs to report on the various services the Lions worked on. Vision chair Connie Engle reported that there will be a vision screening at the CAC building from 1 to 3PM on March 17th. Volunteers are always needed. The next report was on our adopted school Reaves Elementary. There is to be a Field Day this Friday and as always our Lions had a fun time reading stories for the classes last week. We have done our service to Reaves Elementary School for years and thoroughly enjoy our time with the staff and students. It was also announced that our next Service Saturday project will be March 15th. There we will be assisting one of our senior citizens whose fence was damaged by Hurricane Beryl. Our club members are going to repair it for her. Good news is reported that Conroe Lion LEOS had a well-attended forum with several Conroe Lions in attendance. Lion Ricky Morton reminded the membership to sign up to work the concession at the fair. Morgan Freeman made us aware of our Spring Membership Drive. It’s called “Lions on the Hunt”. It’s a scavenger hunt and though it may be a bit challenging it looks like it is going to be lots of fun!
Our program was presented by Michael Potter, Master Gardener, and Montgomery County’s extension agent. This was a repeat program, as when he gave his last program the membership had so many questions he was invited back. He gave his advice on our fruit trees, saying that due to the freeze, that perhaps our yield will not be as expected. Also, don’t be in a hurry to fertilize your lawn. Be careful with what you use to kill the weeds. There is no way I can repeat this program and give suggestions for your lawn shrubs and what to use on them. All I can suggest is you can go online to our Montgomery County Extension Service, it has all the answers. The Master Gardeners are having a plant sale this month and an Open Garden Day.
President Bryan thanked our guest for coming and invited them to join us again. It has been my pleasure to bring you the news of what’s taking place in the Conroe Noon Lions Club. Come and break bread with us any Wednesday at Noon at the Lone Star Convention Center.
