Howdy folks! Once again you find me bringing you the latest news and events that took place at our lunch meeting on Wednesday.
President Bryan Rennell started the day by having our Pledges, Invocation, Songs, and our meet and greet with fellow Lions. Almost immediately he gave us all a report on the great time and success that was had by the children and Lion volunteers who worked and assisted with our ‘kids on the lake’ event. This was our fishing tournament for special needs kids held on Saturday, Sept. 21st at Owen Park.
Conroe Noon Lions are privileged each year to present this activity. It gives the opportunity for parents and their child to enjoy the great outdoors, with fishing, playing games, and dunking our honorable President Bryan in the dunking tank. The Conroe Fire Dept. and Montgomery County Hospital District were in attendance to assist if necessary and to show off their shiny ambulance and big beautiful red fire truck. There were games, prizes, and fun for all. Then all were treated to a lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings. The horses from the Conroe PD Mounted Patrol were very popular with several children. I will leave the fishing tournament by saying awards and prizes were given to all.
Lion 1st VP Tracy Irvine reminded us about our annual Clay Shoot coming up at Blackwood Gun Club on Saturday, October 5th. Space is filling up fast and Lion volunteers are needed in all areas. Along with the shoot, we are holding a Gun Raffle, offering up chances from a variety of 8-guns. Our famous rebel rouser Lion Bill McGraw challenged all to a $5,00 match if we surpassed that amount in ticket sales. Come on out. The fun and fellowship will be great!
Next up was Membership chairperson Lion Morgan Freeman with a very fun campaign for our fall Membership Drive. A new shirt with the logo “Ask me to ROAR” was given to all members. If a person asks you to roar before you do say “Thanks for asking but before I do may I invite you to join us on Wednesday at noon to learn what Lions Club is all about.” Be looking for those blue shirts around town and ‘ask us to ROAR’.
Our program was presented by one of our own Lion Steve Scott on ‘9 Phrases Smart People should never Use’. He and his assistant Lion Lorena Garcia entertained us with several short skits using certain words and phrases that were good to use and not to use when communicating with others. This was very informative and made you think about how you react to others.
In closing President Bryan reminded us once again about other activities coming up, especially our vision screenings for preschool children during October and November, along with our search for our local military hero whom we will support throughout the club year.
“Yay” to all our Community Partners for supporting us this Lions club year 2024-2025. Thanks for embracing our vision. “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” – quote by Helen Keller.
