The trio and a large cast and crew released “The Author” movie in 2022. It began streaming on Amazon, Apple and Google in November 2023.

Now Cable is back with a new project that will premiere during the film festival Friday.

“It’s a pretty competitive process and they’ve made a lot of progress since they began years ago so we’re excited to be a part of the film festival,” said Cable, who now lives in Kansas City. “For me it is always good to come back home and showcase the newest project we’ve been working on to the local community.”

Here’s what to know about the new film and this week’s film festival.

What is the Prison City Film Festival?

The four-day independent film festival is based at Huntsville’s Old Town Theatre.

According to information from the Texas Film Commission, its four-day roster will be packed with special presentations, Q&As and informative open discussions, receptions and networking mixers, live entertainment and feature films, shorts, documentaries, music videos and trailers selected from the various category submissions to be screened and presented on the big screen with HQ sound.

The name is a nod to the various prison units in Huntsville including the famous Walls Unit near downtown Huntsville. The event is in its eighth year and is regarded as one of the premier film festivals in North America, according to the Texas Film Commission.

What is ‘Parable’ about?

Cable fell in love with film as a teen typing out the scripts for Walker Cable Productions. Chuck Walker would write the screenplays out with a pencil and legal tablet and a 13-year-old Cable would type them up.

It was there he became interested in the art of storytelling through screenplay. He would later partner with his dad and Walker on films.

Following The Author, Cable was looking to engage in a new film project.

“I read an article about John Hughes when he made ‘The Breakfast Club’ that there were some things he pitched about staying in one location and they were able to create a film in a shorter amount of time. I was inspired by that,” Cable said.

Cable’s story allowed them to film in a single location in Kansas City and some have called the movie “‘The Breakfast Club’ for a new generation.”

Parable has an ensemble cast of seven characters where six of them wake up in a loft and there is a body on the bed.

“The process they go through is self-discovery and they have to ask themselves some of the important questions in life in order to get out of the loft,” he said.

It was shot in November 2023 with his dad and Walker coming to Kansas City to collaborate on the new film. A trailer can be viewed on the Parable film website.

“We had such a great time on ‘The Author’ it was a no brainer to have them be a part of this process as well,” he said.
