With the 2023-24 school year starting, Montgomery County parents and students may be searching for tutoring options.

The Texas Education Agency compiled a list of tutoring organizations through its Vetted Texas Tutor Corps initiative, also known as VTTC. The tutoring organizations have in-person and virtual programs for students across the state. 

For parents and students looking for in-person tutoring in their area, there are several organizations in the county that offer services.

New Caney ISD students return to class Aug. 7, while Conroe, Magnolia and Splendora students return Aug. 9. Montgomery students are back Aug. 10 and Willis students start the year Aug. 16. 

Here are five organizations offering tutoring services for varies subjects:

Kumon

Kumon, a Japanese-based math and reading tutoring program, was created by Toru Kumon in the 1950s — later moving over to the U.S. 20 years later. 

The math and reading centers offer tutoring for K-12 students. The programs cover everything from counting to calculus, and phonemics to Shakespeare, according to the organization’s website. Most centers are individually owned and operated, with varying tuition and other fees, the organization’s website states.

There are more than 100 centers in the Houston area, with three centers in The Woodlands. Virtual classes are also available.

Suprex Learning

Suprex Learning, a Sugar Land-based tutoring program, was founded in 2011 and has locations throughout the U.S. 

The organization offers tutoring for math, science and reading to K-12 students, including college. The organization provides also mock testing for students looking to prepare for an upcoming final. Pricing depends on the type of academic support needed, whether it’s school tutoring, test preparation or educational therapy, according to the organization’s website. 

The organization offers private and in-house tutoring for Conroe, The Woodlands and Magnolia students, its website states. Online tutoring is available as well.

Sylvan Learning

Sylvan Learning of The Woodlands and Magnolia is a tutoring organization that offers services for Montgomery County and Spring students. 

The organization offers tutoring for K-12 students — in all subjects including STEM classes such as robotoics, coding and engineering. The organization also offers test preparation as well as college and career readiness services. 

The organization offers in-person and virtual tutoring sessions at its Magnolia location.

Joy to Learn is a Texas-based tutoring organization ran by a Klein ISD elementary teacher.

The organization offers tutoring for K-8 students in all subjects. Pricing ranges from $50 to $100 for one-on-one and group tutoring, according to the organization’s website. 

The organization offers in-person tutoring sessions at its Magnolia location.
