The 5 O’Clock Phlock Parrot Head Club has been making waves and having great PHun the last few months, and it’s about time we tell you all about it!
October of 2024 was one of the club’s busiest months ever. We began the month supporting The SPCA*PETS*SNAP by participating in the Doggies & Diva’s Fundraiser. Less than a week later was the Papa C Wine Dinner in Houston at Ciro’s Italian Grill which benefitted our Woodlands Walk To End Alzheimer’s Team. Those proceeds were added to our individual fundraising and our summer event at Amore. On Walk Day, Saturday October 26th, we found ourselves at the top of the leader board placing #1 individual walker, #1 local team, and #2  national team. Additionally, we ranked #1 amongst the 42 Parrot Head Clubs across the nation who participated in their local Walks. Yeah us!Â
A group of our members attended the annual Meeting of The Minds (MOTM) Parrot Head Conference in Gulf Shores Alabama in October, where several of our ladies were crossing the finish line at the Bras Across The Causeway Breast Cancer Fundraiser literally at the same time The Woodlands Walk was happening. It was so cool to face time back and forth and cheer each other on!Â
November brought us together for our annual “Attitude of Gratitude” day of hands on community service work. We decorated a tree for the Charles B Stewart FOL Christmas Tree Auction, made craft bags for kids, and completed 1500 candy rolls for Christmas gifts for families. We completed our SOCKtober donation of 500 pairs of new socks for the homeless just as winter approached and collected food and toiletry items for The Community Assistance Center.Â
December was our holiday party, complete with amazing music by The Tropicats. We danced the night away while also filling two giant Toys for Tots boxes. We worked the Faith Fighting Cancer Tea as volunteers and then shopped for, wrapped and delivered gifts for the FFC Adopt A Family Program that The Tea funds. Â Â
January of 2025 we welcomed our new Membership Directors Pat Beck and Frances McDougal, and their tech support guru Richard Beck. Our Jamm Band and Jammin’ DJs started their planning for 2025 music at our events. Activities Directors Donna Bolton and Donita Barrow began the PHun planning, and VP Marie Underdown continues to delight our members with birthday and get well cards delivered to home mailboxes. I was honored to be named National Alzheimer’s Chair for our governing body, Parrot Heads in Paradise (PHIP). I will work with our 185+ clubs across the nation to increase participation in The Walks to End Alzheimer’s and The Alzheimer’s The Longest Day events. I spent 3 amazing days in Atlanta for the Alzheimer’s Community Leaders Summit. I was awestruck and can’t wait to share what I learned about the progress being made to end “the long goodbye”.
What’s next for The 5Â O’Clock Phlock? From 5 to 7 p.m. on February 27th we will host our annual Mardi Gras themed Happy Hour at the wonderful 202 Main in downtown Conroe. There will be HH pricing on drinks and food, great music by our Jammin’ DJs, a costume contest and the crowning of our best dressed couple as King and Queen of our party. Yes, there will be King Cake too!Â
We will be collecting new and gently used Hawaiian shirts for “Heroes in Hawaiian Shirts.” This fabulous project sends Hawaiian Shirts to deployed soldiers for much needed morale boosters. Check their website hawaiianshirtsfordeployedsoldiers/org or their Facebook page. The organization encourages donors to include cards of support for the soldiers, so we’ll have them at the happy hour ready for personal notes to be added. It’s going to be a PHabulous party, and everyone is invited. It’s open to the public, family friendly, and we love to have lots of guests to dance and sing along with us.Â
And of course – St Patrick’s Day! Our annual St Paddy’s Parade will be Monday, March 17th, hosted by The Corner Pub. Save the date now. Details to follow next week!Â
