In 2023\, the event drew a record 75\,000-plus p eople to the grounds.\n\nHere is what to know about the 2024 edition:\nOp ening day\nThe first day of the fair is April 11. New this year\, Senior Citizen's Day will take place on the first day of the 10-day event. It wa s typically held the Tuesday of fair week.\n\nThe event is at 9 a.m. at th e Lone Star Convention Center and it draws senior groups from across Montg omery County where the various groups crown a king and queen.\n\nSenior ad ults may also submit their handicrafts and baked goods for judging. Openin g day continues that night with the carnival from 4 to 11 p.m.\nRodeo week end\nThe fair really gets rolling on April 12 with Sunshine Day where spec ial needs students enjoy the fair during the day and livestock and non-liv estock judging begins.\n\nA Cowboy's Professional Rodeo Association rodeo is set for 6 p.m. at the Woodforest Bank arena. Following the rodeo count ry band Jason Boland &\; The Stragglers perform on the grounds. Special events during the week in clude the Non-Livestock Auction at 7 p.m. April 15\, a team roping event a t 7 p.m. April 16\, the Junior Livestock Auction at 6:30 p.m. April 17\, Ladies Night with dueling pianos music at 6 p.m. April 18 and a teen dan ce from 6 to 10 p.m. April 18.\nBarbecue cook-off weekend\nAt 2 p.m. April 19\, the fair's barbecue cook-off commences and continues into the late h ours of April 20 at the fair. This year's cook-off includes 147 teams with booths throughout the grounds.\n\nAwards for best barbecue will be at 6: 30 p.m. April 20. Other awards like "Best Dress Port O Can" and "Most Imag inative" will be presented. A washer and cornhole tournament will also be a part of the weekend.\n\nThe fair closes its 2024 run with El Dia de La F amilia Hispana featuring bands starting at noon April 21.\nWhat to know if you go\nOn the Montgomery County Fair website\, there's a "Know Before Y ou Go" tab with basic information about the event. A ticket is required April 12-14 and April 19-20.\n\nTickets are $10 online or $15 at the gate for those age 12 and older. Tickets for children ages 5-11 are $5. Childr en younger than 5 are admitted for free. A $5 parking fee will be require d April 12-14 and April 19-21. Parking may also be paid online in advance. \n\nFor El Dia de La Familia Hispana\, tickets are $20 online and $25 at t he gate. Children younger than 12 are able to enter for free.\n\nNo parkin g fees are charged during the week.
