a major Texas Music Act available NowTexas Can't Keep Him to Ourselves Much Longer - We pulled into Fredericksburg (7/5/07) for some relaxation and obscurity for a couple days. After dinner, while strolling past Auslander Biergarten, I noticed a stage setup with "all the right guitars". With a measley $5 cover charge (good sign, since everything else was free), I convinced my wife to stay until the band started. We sat down at a picnic table about 20' from the stage, got a beer, fully anticipating our exit when the band began. Some older guys (about my age, 55) take the stage, tuning guitars and testing the PA. As a hardened rocker, I was expecting something Country/Western, but the guys tuning up looked more Rock than Country. A local radio DJ intoduces the band with the statement, "Someday, your gonna say you saw Johnny Cooper in Fredericksburg before he hit the big time". Yeah sure, I thought, when some 120 lb. kid (all of 18) walks over to the center microphone to make adjustments, picks up an acoustic guitar, says hello. Then BAM, the KID cues the band and begins the finest 2 hours of live entertainment I've heard in years! Yeah, there was plenty of country in that voice, but the songs were filled with rock riffs and rhythms. And what a voice and stage presence Johnny Cooper has! He led that band like a pro and those guys weren't new at this. Impossible not to love. Song writing was so good, band so tight, I had to go online and learn more. Turns out, he's a shooting star from Wichita Falls with his first CD already going nationwide. Johnny played a show in Spring a month later where we carried many of our friends and family to listen. Same result! Everyone agreed the whole band belonged on the Big Stage. In fact, most of us are all booked to visit Fredericksburg again, Nov. 24 to do it all again. If you are ever near one of their shows, make plans to attend now. Listen to the six songs below and you will understand why Texas won't keep him here much longer.
