Most of the South and West side of Lake Conroe is served by the Montgomery Independent School District on the west and south side of the lake, which is rated as a TEA "Exemplary District." SchoolMatch, a national school research and data consulting service, has ranked MISD among the top 15 percent of school districts nationwide.
All MISD campuses are accredited as "Exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency, except Montgomery Junior High, which has the highest "Exemplary" rating. There are also approximately 20 daycare centers and private schools around the Lake area, including a number of schools affiliated with religious denominations. These facilities offer childcare and instruction for all ages, ranging from infants and preschoolers to grades K-12. Many are accredited by various licensing organizations.
Students can earn four-year, master's and professional degrees from nine major Texas universities at the North Harris Montgomery Community College District's University Center, located on Highway 242 near I-45 North. Participating universities include Texas A&M, Sam Houston State, the University of Houston (Main Campus & Downtown), Rice University, Houston Community CollegeSystem, Prairie View and Texas Southern. Within 40 miles of Conroe are 11 colleges and universities, including the University of Houston, Rice University, Texas A & M University, Sam Houston State University and South Texas College of Law—all providing unlimited educational opportunities.
